Work Experience.

My professional path has been diverse and enriching from carpentry to architectural internships. At Shoalts and Zaback Architects, I contributed to residential, commercial, and industrial projects, excelling in 3D modelling, photogrammetry, and Ontario Building Code research. My carpentry roles provided invaluable experience in construction, from foundations to interior finishes. These roles have cultivated a deep understanding of collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership. As a Technology Teacher, I now channel this expertise into education, fostering creativity and technical skills in the classroom.

My Education.

My academic journey reflects my commitment to architecture and education. After earning a Bachelor of Architectural Studies and a Master’s in Architecture from Laurentian University, I continued to enrich my perspective through international studies in Germany. Now, as I pursue a Bachelor of Education at Queen's University, I aim to combine my design expertise with teaching. My goal is to empower students with hands-on knowledge and critical thinking skills, preparing them to shape the future of design and innovation.

Craft.

With a foundation in hands-on experience, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the art of building and crafting. My carpentry roles honed my ability to work from blueprints to final structures, mastering techniques such as timber framing, foundation work, and post-and-beam construction. These practical skills have seamlessly merged with my architectural training, providing a holistic understanding of design and execution. This blend of craft and theory enables me to bridge the gap between conceptual designs and tangible outcomes, inspiring creativity and precision in my work.

Professional Learning Plan.

I’ve been working on a set of personal learning goals to help guide and strengthen my teaching practice. My focus is on creating more inclusive and accessible lessons by incorporating differentiated instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies. I’m also committed to supporting the development of 21st-century skills through hands-on, inquiry-based projects that engage students in meaningful ways. Improving my communication—especially in giving clear, structured instruction and feedback—is another key area I’m working on. Lastly, I’m making a conscious effort to stay connected with current research and trends in technology and design by participating in professional development and engaging with industry resources. These goals are helping me grow as an educator and ensure I’m creating supportive, engaging, and up-to-date learning experiences for my students.

Statement of Belief .

I’ve taken time to reflect deeply on my teaching philosophy, which is rooted in the belief that education extends beyond academics—it plays a critical role in shaping students’ social, emotional, and ethical development. My approach blends democratic teaching, constructivist learning, and a strong focus on inclusivity to create engaging and respectful classroom environments. I prioritize student voice and collaboration, encouraging shared decision-making and inquiry-based learning. I also emphasize hands-on experiences to help students build real-world skills and confidence through meaningful projects. Culturally inclusive practices are at the heart of my work, and I’m committed to ensuring all students feel seen and valued. Staying connected to the professional world, particularly through my involvement with the Ontario Association of Architects, allows me to bring fresh, relevant insight into my teaching. I ground everything in the ethical standards of the profession, while also drawing from Indigenous teachings to foster a classroom culture rooted in respect, courage, and compassion.
